What are some organizations that help poverty?

Do you directly know of any local nonprofit organizations in nepal, who are looking for interns or volunteers?

• I'm an American citizen and i would love to have an internship in Nepal for a few weeks to a couple of months (or more, not sure yet). I'm looking for a trustworthy nonprofit group that works towards community development, women's empowerment, vocational training for marginalized people, human rights, poverty reduction etc etc etc. I don't speak Nepali or anything, and i would need to make sure that the organization is legitimate, so maybe a website would help? I would also ask them to kindly help me find some sort of housing or homestay or something. I really want to learn more about the nonprofit world, i have taught english in the past too, so that can come in handy. i believe in self-sustainability and vocational training and development in communities. I have a lot to give and a lot to learn. the problem is that i found a lot of western organizations that claim to put you in to intern or volunteer in communities around the world, but then they have extremely high fees to register with them, which doesn't even include airfare or anything! I would just like to find a nice organization who would like the help of someone for a little while, who would be nice to help me out when i arrive and find a place to stay a bit, and then i'd pay for my travel expenses and go. I need links directly to local grassroot organizations though...anyone?
