Separate rupees for India and Nepal?

Separate rupees for India and Nepal?

  • I'm planning to journey to both countries, starting in Delhi and working my way to Kathmandu. I am wondering if I can spend Indian rupees in both countries (sticking with only one form of currency would much easier) or must I exchange Indian rupees into Nepalese ones when I cross into Nepal?

  • Answer:

Indian currency must be exchanged into Nepalese currency for legal transaction in Nepal. The exchange rate is 100 IC = 160 NC. 15 Paisa is the exchange commission per hundred rupees. Indian currency of higher denominations other than Rs.100.are not accepted even by the banks. For overseas travelers, however they come to Nepal via India and are holding Indian Currencies must change them into the entry point into Nepalese currencies. Since there are numerous exchangers here and the exchange rate is minimum and the rate also is similar to many exchangers and banks I would advise all travelers travelling Nepal to use Nepalese Currency.
