Is it so important to prepare revision papers for the students?

  • i am a home tutor. and believe it or not, i never prepared revision papers for my students cause i think it is a waste of time and wont help a lot. so how i do? i will just use their school books like the text, activity and exercise books to teach them cause most questions are from these books of course. but there is a parent of one of my student just asked me to prepare some papers and i explained to her that it is not very useful but she was strictly wanted it so i think i will prepare some for her child. what do u think? do revision papers help a lot?

    To be effetive, "revision papers" should only be prepared by the students themselves.... because only they konw what they have to know and remember, and these vary between students. They do it while "studying" after class lessons and whiledoing homework, noting down the salient points and principles of the subject. So, revision papers help a lot, provided it is prepared by the students themselves. If prepared by the tutor, it would be just like a slim down textbook, and would not be very helpful to the student.

pros --- it gives the students a good feel of what the real test would be like. revision papers are drill exercises that help the students be better prepared for big exams and hopefully get better grades. also, it allows parents of students to go over the review materials with them. cons --- students sometimes have the tendency to focus only on revision papers. they do not review the textbooks not their notes anymore. they may score well on tests but they could have learned only certain portions of the subject matter.

Konichiwa How is revision a waste of time? Please elaborate. Any form of revision is important and is an effective form of learning/preparing for exams. You said "i will just use their school books like the text, activity and exercise books to teach them cause most questions are from these books of course", isn't that revision? Students must understand what they are being taught and not merely regurgitate what is being written on text books into their exam papers. School textbooks should only be used as a guide, learning everything from a textbook is an outdated and ill-conceived method of teaching. I'm sure you have been a student in the past before 'qualifying' as a home tutor. How exactly do you study?

Of course it do really helps alot. you can see there are so many revision books in the market now and students are purchasing it. if i was the student, i do rather choose a book of revision papers than a school books which full of notes.
