  • Friends, I have an offer of 6.5K RM/month to work as Software Consultant(Mainframe Technology) in MNC in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I have 4.8 years of experience in Mainframe Technology. I'm wondering that will 6.5K RM /month helps me to lead comfortable life & save money in Malaysia & is 6.5K RM/ month good salary or what for my experience. Thanks for all your help in advance. Regards Hemantha

For your experience and industry, you should be earning at least RM12000 if not more. However, an organisation will not pay you that amount just because you are a software consultant and have 5 yrs of experience. Your current salary will also be taken into account. If you were earning lets say RM5000 in your last job, the most they will offer you is 15 to 20% and thats about RM1000 extra. You cant expect a jump from RM5000 to RM12000. That's absurd. The best way is to work yourself up the ladder. I have friends who have begun their work in computer industry with a basic pay of RM2500 and climbed up to RM25000 in 15 years. As for cost of living, yes RM6500 is sufficient to have a comfortable life in KL. Just dont expect to dine in TGI and breakfast at Starbuck or live in Mont Kiara or Sri Hartamas area...

Hi, for your experience RM6.5k is not a good salary at all. You must get at least above rm8k per month. Cost of living - given in ringitt malaysia for per month expenses. Housing - around 1.5k per month for a furnished 2bhk condominium. RM1.0k for an unfurnished 2bhk condominium, one room bachelor accomodation - rm500 to rm700 Food - rm800 per month for self cooking for 2 people. eating out rm 20 to 40 depending upon the restaurant Utilities(electricity, gas, water) - rm200 Mobile phone - rm60, india calling cards rm20 for 2 hours talking time internet - rm100 child education - rm600 to rm800 per month per child travel - train rm100 per month, taxi rm15 to rm20 for about 15KM distance, buses also available for rm2 per trip. now decide on your offer taking into consideration the above estimated cost of livings. best of luck.

Hi, According to "Pay scale survey conducted by payscale .com, software engineers get around 35 K's per month (Please refer the source for further information). You can refer to that website to know about the salaries of people working in other fields. An average salary of 15 K's is more than enough to support a family. For further information regarding this you can refer to the 2'nd source I provided with this answer. I hope this answer is helpful.
