In 2010 , how much salary one should have to live in Malaysia?

My dad earns about RM1,800 per month & we still manage to live happily together, with my mom, me & sis. My mom is a housewife & me & my sis are studying in college. So, for a person with 2 kids & a wife, I would say RM1,800 is still manageable to live an average living. It all depends whether you can save money for the important purposes & reduce the unwanted expenses. :)

RM8000 per month and above would provide you a comfortable living if u don' have any debt to pay . You must consider in which part of the country will you live and what type of living area will you be and what type of car will you drive.For example living in Kuala Lumpur will cost you more than living in Alor Setar as the basic needs price/rent is higher in Kuala Lumpur. Foods are also cheaper in Alor Setar (not talking about KFC ,McD , Pizza Hut, Coffee Beans and else) but the price of a car and petrol are the same wherever you go.Buying clothes and other things at a big mall also cost you more than buying at the night market unless there is good offer for the same items at the mall. So if just spend that RM80000 for house rent, food, clothes, transportation and utility bills you will have some extra in the pocket. Just remember that your life style must fit into the salary not your salary that will fit into your life style and "the word "average" has a very wide range from "lower average" to "higher average".
