A Windows Mobile phone (Pocket PC) should be the first thing you look for. HTC and Eten both use Windows and are the best phones available at the moment. (I'm using an Eten Glofiish M810)

ASUS is quite ok.

I have been using a smartphone for over 10 years now and i just recently got a new one now that verizon offers the best one ever. It is the HTC touch but verizon calls it the xv6900. Either way it is the same phone on different carriers. It will boil down to how you want it to look and what you will be doing on it. If you want as compact as possible with a touch screen the the Touch is the one to buy. The size has some drawbacks however. On the touch, it does not have a built in keyboard or WiFi. If those are important items to you, then the phone will get a little bigger or you will have to give up the touch screen. If you want those feature and don't care about touch screen, then the SMT5800 is probably the best. If you want it all and don't care about it being a little bigger, then the HTC Tilt is awesome. It is the full package. I just prefer the Touch because it is smaller, thinner, and has a sort of Bose simple yet elegant styling about it. No matter which way you go, I can't emphasize enough to stay away from palm based and RIM phones, that being any kind of berry. The windows mobile based phones can offer far more functionality and seamless synchronization with your computer and especially office products IE word, excel,PowerPoint, outlook. Good luck and I am sure you will enjoy it.
