  • I got an offer in Malaysia as an IT Recruiter, salary offered 3k RM. Can anyone tell me what is the basic cost of living in Malaysia(Petaling Jaya) (accommodation, food, transport, medical) and also let me how much tax will have bare monthly? Is 3k RM is enough for bachelor?

  • Answer:

The tax is approx 10% of your income. Given that you have to take care of so many things, it does not sound a good deal to me.

its not enough. In petaling jaya, the cost of living is quite high. For ur accomodation, if u want to rent a house or an apartment, it will cost u around rm 1000-1500 per month. For food, it is better for u to cook rather than it outside to save ur money but even the groceries now in malaysia has increase in the price. I think for a bachelor u need minimum rm 500 per month.. For transport it is better to use bus , train or komuter bcos it is cheaper. It cost less than 2 dollars if im not mistaken. Dont ever use taxi, bcos it is very very expenxive. As for medical, there are lots of clinic at petaling jaya and it is quite expensive. Just consultation with the doctor will cost about rm 50-80. It doesnot includ the medicine yet.. It depends on why u r there. If ur there bcos of fever or cold it usually will cost u about rm 90. P/s : spend ur money wisely.

Cost of living in Petaling Jaya is high. If you want to maintain a lifestyle like an average city folk, you probably have to spend at least RM2000 on accomodation, food, transportation, entertainment and miscellaneous per month. This does not include the annual levy (tax) that you have to pay for working in Malaysia. In the end of the month, you can only save around RM1000 per month or even lesser. Is it worth for someone who has IT qualification to come all the way from your country to work in Malaysia and having not much savings every month.
