Answer:
Actually we chinese neber call Hungry Ghost Festivals this is just the English naame to the Festival only in but in cantonese we call it at different way , ,actually the ghost are not that hungry ,according to Chinese taoist beliefe, during this 30 days they are allowed to roam the earth ,may be they came back to visit their beloved descandant, so we Chinese see this so pitiful we offer some prayers chamting mantra to alleviate their bad karma and offer some food, candles joss stick and burning some joss paper for them in hope that they can receiveand have a better life in the underworld . other races of ghost they believe in different religion and practise different culture ,like the Western Ghost they have halowen days, in the underworld there is a big and powerful we call it as King of Hades he treat different races and different religion differently .dont forget ar it is not the ghost who are hungry arr, just the name only ,it means they can roam the earth freely during this festival start

If I'm not mistaken, the Hungry Ghost festival is only celebrated mostly in the southern and eastern asian countries, especially Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore Those Chinese in Northern China don't celebrate Hungry Ghost Festival. I read this from an article some time ago. The same goes with eating 'Yee Sang' during Chinese New Year. A singaporean chef created Yee Sang and only Malaysians and Singaporeans eat Yee Sang during Chinese New Year. It is all up to one's belief.
