Are Indian citizens required a Schengen visa when in transit?

Current status on Transit Without Visa in Malaysia for Indian citizens?

  • I have found confusing replies about Transit Without Visa in Malaysia for Indian citizens, in this forum. I am traveling to China via Kuala Lumpur next month, and have kept a 3-day break at KL. Please advice me if I need to apply and get a Malaysia visa before my travel or will I get a transit pass at KL airport? Some other points about my travel: 1. I have return ticket to China booked with Malaysian Airlines. 2. I dont have any long term permit in any 3rd country. The Air Asia website mentions this is necessary for a transit pass for Indians. Note: I know Visa on arrival is abolished for Indians, and also Transit without Visa (TWOV) was re-introduced for Indians last year. I want to know the latest status, since I am reading confusing messages in websites. My travel agent asked me to apply for a Malaysian tourist/transit visa to be safe, but I want to re-confirm with experts here if that is really needed. Thanks very much in advance!!

  • Answer:

If doubtful, go and get that VISA. Because of frequent changes in Immigration matters, even its officers may not be very knowledgeable...... If you really want to stay in KL for 3 days, it is in very good order to obtain a proper tourist VISA. A transit VISA is a different thing, and contains restrictions on your movements.
