Moving to South Korea from America, 10 things I should bring/not bring?
-
So I am moving to Yongsan South Korea in a month. I personally traveled there and lived all over Korea 6 years ago on my own dime for two years and never wanted to leave, now that I am going back, I am wondering about things that may or may not be different. I was hoping maybe people can give me a little list of 10 things you advise I bring with me and 10 things that I don't need to bring.....I do know the basics, like the 120 thing for appliances, the money system and all in between but I am asking more along the lines of creature comforts, it's been a long time since I have been there. We are going with the US ARMY, so I know that a lot of things I am used to will be available on post, but I was hoping someone might have a little insight. We will be there for 3 years at least, that a long time to look foreward and predict what I should bring with me

I've lived in Korea thrice before and each time has been significantly different. The last time was in 2009 when I realized that thanks to globalization, you can find pretty much everything you need in pretty much every developed country. Even the assortment of English books that I missed each time I was there is not a problem now that there's Kindle, iPad, etc. Especially since you'll be on base, you should have access to most of the creature comforts you're used to (including Bath&Body works which is available nowhere else in Korea). If I were in your shoes, I would bring very little clothing and accessories (since they're easily purchased there, in cheap abundance) and make a list of everything I plan to be doing in the next 3 years. Whatever items you might need for the things on the list that you cannot remember being able to locate in Korea, I would buy now. For me, it's usually been certain specialty vitamins, hard-to-locate products like Nair, prep books (for LSAT and the like). Hope that helped!
