Sm Entertainment Auditions?
-
I have a couple questions regarding the auditions? 1- Do you have to be Asian? I'm not. 2- Do you need to be fluent in the Korean language or is okay to be a learner? 3- Do they prefer singers or dancers? 4- Do they really judge you on your looks? 5- How old do you need to be to audition? Is 14 going on 15 in September too young? 6- What are the physical requirements? I'm 5 feet 1 1/2 inches and I weigh about 100lbs- am I okay? 7- If my audition is singing- does it have to be in Korean? Or can I do it in English or French? 8- If my audition is dancing- do I have to make up a choreography, freestyle or is doing a k-pop choreography okay? 9- Do you need prior training of any sort? 10- How do you do an e-mail audition and can you do it all year round? 11- How hard is it to pass the audition? Perhaps could you give me information about other entertainment companies I should look into instead of SM, if you don't think I would pass the audition?

Answer:
You don't have to be Asian but it's pretty tough to be accepted in a Korean entertainment company if you're not full Korean. It's okay to be a learner, if you're talented enough in your acts then they will gladly teach you Korean. Each company is different with the singing and dancing, but JYP would be the company more into dancing. SM is 80% looks; some of their top stars are gorgeous but terrible at singing. Yes, they really do judge you on looks, but they do take into consideration your talents! Auditions range from 11-18 I believe, so you're safe. If you weren't okay in physical appearance, they'd get you working harder to burn calories or plastic surgery. You can sing in English or anything else, as long as you show your voice. You don't need prior training but its recommended most likely, just to put you out there with more experience. Email auditions aren't the most successful, but if that's what you need to do, visit the companies' sites and they should have an audition tab. There's always more options like DSP, JYP, YG, CUBE, look into all other areas for more options. :) OTHER ANSWERERS: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AhonfMIuzWoYMsQ0CC7wlCAazKIX;_ylv=3?qid=20100823143455AAS5m6P

1. They say all races are accepted. You don't HAVE to be asian but they only accept asians. They can't discriminate or else they'd be sued but only asians. Usually only Korean, Chinese, Japanese (not many if any), Filipino and some are mixed. But you have to have as least 1/4 asian blood and look asian. Like if you're a hapa but look caucasian they won't accept you. Daniel Henney is a hapa but he looks Korean. 2. No. They will teach you Korean. 3. They prefer if you're pretty. If you have mad talent they'll accept you but you have to be good looking. SM is known for 80% looks. But if you're pretty and they find out you can't sing or dance they'll kick you out. 4. Yes they do. 5. It doesn't matter what age. Usually 16-18 is the latest because you have to train to debut which takes 2-7 years. You're not too young. Leetuk was 23-14 when he debuted. 6. To be honest you're too short. They like people that are tall. For girls 5'5 +. But they don't want a girl whose like 6 feet. Doubtful because asians are known to be short. But the shortest they usually accept is 5'2. But that's usually when the kids are really young like 12 and they'll grow. 7. No it can be in English. Not French. 8. You have to bring a cd and a choreographed routine if you're auditioning for dancing. If you're singing then you still have to do a rhythm test. 9. No but it helps. 10. Go on the SM website to US auditions then email. 11. It's very very very selective. You have to be beautiful, potential to become talented and tall. You don't have to be tall if you have talent like BoA or Taeyeon since they're 5'2- 5'3. But that's pretty rare. There's only about 20-35 official trainees. You could try out for the not very popular companies but doubtful you'll be really really famous because SM is known for marketing their artists very well and possibly the best training system. All of their artists are beautiful, can dance and sing, excel in dancing or singing. Their groups always perform live well in singing and dancing. @Shinee forever They don't MAKE you get plastic surgery. A lot the trainees want to get it to be more beautiful but SM doesn't force them too. They pay for it. And if you're not pretty they won't even accept you. I mean everyone says Hyoyeon is ugly but she's pretty you just have to get used to her look since it's not typical Korean.

Well, the first question pretty much answers the rest. They can't discriminate otherwise they'd get sued, but if you're not Asian, then you can't get in.

1.Anyone can audition but I'm pretty sure they only accept Asians. 2.I think you should at least know some Korean. 3.Both!They need both. 4.Yeah because it's SM!They would probably make you have plastic surgery after training. I don't know the rest of the answers but I recommend JYP or YG.They don't really care about looks.

1. SM allows for all races to audition. (but unless you are at least half - asian, or speak Korean fluently, the chances of getting in are slim to none, since SM debuts their artists in Korea). - 2. You don't have to be fluent, they will teach you. But also refer to answer #1 - 3. Do whatever you are better at, and if you are great at both (not good, but GREAT), then audition for both, because that increases your chances/ - 4. YES. a million times YES. unless you are some dancing or singing legend, they will definitely consider looks. That's not the ONLY thing they judge you on, but remember: 20-30% talent & 70-80% looks. * If your talented but don't have the looks, they'll persuade you to do plastic surgery *Have the looks but not as talented, they'll just train you really hard - 5. Any age is fine. Actually, your age is around the ideal age - 6. There are no physical requirements. They tend to like people on the tall side, but that doesn't really matter. Weight doesn't really matter, cause that's something that you can fix. - 7. It doesn't have to be in Korean- there are tons of people who sing in English. But NO French, cause..... that wouldn't really impress them. - 8. Making a choreography is best, unless your good at free-styling. Try not to do a k-pop dance, because that doesn't impress either. - 9. No. They'll train you. But getting voice or dance lessons might increase your chance, cause then you'll be a better singer or dancer! - 10. http://audition.smtown.com/SmAuditionArs.asp?lang=eng1 ^ weblink email them at [email protected] w/ name, age, name of school, grade, home address and #, height, weight. mention what your specialty is (i.e. singing or dancing), and include a picture of yourself that is scanned (so no selcas) - 11. SM is one of the HARDEST entertainments to get into, and it is HARD. *one way it is not as hard to get in is through good looks. *PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE like it's your life! practice your song and choreo over and over again until you think you can't get any better at it, and then STILL practice. *Give your 200%. The chances of getting in with just average talent is NONE. (unless you have the looks, once again). -------- Um, YG Entertainment doesn't really care about looks. But they do care about talent MUCH more during the audition. They look for something that just kind of "pops" or something "special". Talents helps, but they look for people with that special something in them. -------- JYP considers looks too, but not as much as SM. They are more for talent also, just like YG. -------- There are TONS of entertainments you could audition to. The not-as-known ones usually accept MUCH more easily than SM or YG or JYP, but I'm not sure if they do international auditions. - I hope that helped~! <3
1. No, they said it themselves that they except all race. 2. No, if you get in they will teach you. 3. I guess both, it depends on what your good at, or if they are running short on trainee dancers than I guess they would be looking for dancers. :) 4. Yes, this bugs me too, but sadly yes. Apparently they will tell you to get plastic surgery if they don't think you have the required look. 5. Any age is fine, 14 is perfect age to audition, I always felt that it was better to start out young so when you debut your not 30 years old or something. lol ;) 6. They never mention anything about physical requirement, because if they did then they are just making themselves look bad, but that height and weight is good for your age. :) 7. No it does HAVE to be Korean, you can sing an English song too. 8. I'm guessing you have to make up your own choreography, I don't think they will accept kpop choreography, because they would show that you aren't creative. 9. No, if you get in they will train you. 10. You can go on the website for information, I'm pretty sure its all year around. Weekly Auditions are held at L.A every Saturday. 11. I'm guessing its going to be pretty hard considering that there are a lot of people who wants to try out too, there are 3 rounds that you have to go through. 1st round is the public audition, so basically everyone goes through round 1 if they are trying out. 2nd Round is when they call you back and you do this little talent show for them and if you win, you get the contract. Round 3 is performing privately in front of the judges. :) You can try JYP, YG, DSP, Pledis, and more. Go to the websites to find out information on the auditions. :)
