How conservative is South Korea in their clothing? Traveling there this summer..?
-
I'm traveling to South Korea in a few weeks for a vacation and for a study abroad program. I bought a lot of summer dresses to wear in Korea because I heard it gets really hot and humid out there. I don't really like wearing shorts and I wouldn't want to wear jeans in hot weather, so I stocked up on summer dresses. However I am worried because I heard Korea is conservative in their clothing. I was wondering how conservative South Korea is? My dresses are all about knee length and mostly spaghetti straps. Is this not appropriate? I would wear cardigans but the only cardigans I have are for winter and they are all long-sleeved. Help me out here! Anyone traveled to Asia before in the summertime?

Answer:
When I was in Korea, I saw girls with short shorts and mini skirts everywhere. Tank tops are okay too. Just don't have your love handles sticking out.

they are very conservative! no spaghetti straps and low cut tops, but your shorts/skirts can be as short as you want. o,o'

Nah, don't worry. ~^.^ South Korea, along with the rest of the world, really ...evolved(?) the past 10 or 20 years. Well, not really 'evolved,' but traditional countries definitely became more modern & westernized. You can wear those summer dresses, shorts, skirts, camis, tanks, etc. (: Your dresses sound very appropriate, spaghetti straps are normal & knee length is good. It'll only become inappropriate if you wear super short dresses/skirts/shorts & wear tops that don't have straps or show your stomach. But other than that, all other kinds of clothing are fine! Oh, & I agree with the first answer. You should definitely bring at least a couple pairs of shorts. Btw, I hope you didn't spend all of your money on summer dresses because Korea's clothes are some of the prettiest I've seen & you've just got to buy some! Their fashion sense is just... amazing :D
i go to korea almost every other summer to see family (i'm 15) and i always wore skirts and shorts really they aren't as conservative as they were before actully it depends on where you;re going (i went to soeul) but i don't think everywhere else is really different i am sure your summer dresses are fine. but i would bring shorts even though you dont like wearing them it will do you justice, trust me :)

South Koreans are not that conservative when it comes to dresses, though you perhaps want to avoid really really short skirts and stuff like that.

if you really care about what koreans think, spaghetti straps=no no. but i don't really care so i just wear whatever i want. (:
