Commercial Drivers License test?

I Have a Korean Drivers License from USAG Yongsan in Korea. Do I need to take my Drivers Test?

  • I just moved back from the states, I got my first and only License in South Korea in 2008. BUT it was from a Army Base through a stateside school. I drove there for 3 years, and then I came back to the States to live in California. Now my sister had the SAME Driving Certificate and the Same Drivers License that I do now, and she DIDN'T have to take the drivers test. But when I went into the DMV, they said that I had to. My husband and I are trying to get Command Sponsored for Camp Humphrey's in Korea. I need to get my License before I go back, but several people have told me that I don't need to take the Drivers test. And The people at the DMV keep changing their answers. So Do I or not? I need help please...

  • Answer:

At the very least, all you would need to do is take the written test. I got my first DL in the states, and with that, I was only required to take the written test. If your sister was able to get her license without any tests, then I don't see why you wouldn't be able to. It's likely that you're asking people that don't know the answer. You might get better answers at the international DL counter. That is were I did everything. Most of them simply don't deal with this kind of stuff on a daily basis to know enough, especially your type of permit.
