Not many similarities. S. Korea is 1st world, makes electronics and cars. N. Korea is 3rd world, and one of the lowest GDP's per capita in western Asia. They both eat rice. That's about as similar as the two economies are. As for politics, S. Korea is a democracy, and while a bit corrupt, is still a democracy. N. Korea is a dictatorship that is controlled by only one person, who controls the military, the police, the economy... everything... badly.

North is a communist country, S. is democratic. N. if you are a male you are required to be in the army for 35years while in S. you are required to be in for 2yrs and 2 months. N. borders china and S. Korea while S. only borders N. Korea. Both are peninsulas. N. Capital is Pyongyang and S. is Seoul

you're kidding, right? Their is a world of difference between North and South Korea. South Korea in the 10th largest economy in the world---while North Korea is still struggling to feed their people. Ever hear of the brands-Samsung, LG, Hyundai and Kia?? All South Korean...Like those LCD screens or flat screen televisions? Most likely it was made in SOUTH Korea..also, another interesting fact is that S.Korea has passed Sony in the electronics department. North Koreans are not allowed to watch anything that isn't approved by the government. And most importantly---North and South Korea are still at war with one another since their has never been a formal agreement to end the war--and the JSA is the most heavily militarized place in the world.

Ummm, North Korea is very poor and South Korea is doing fairly well I suppose. At least when compared to N. Korea.

Have you checked out a Hyundai lately, or the products of Samsung, LG, or eMachines? Compare that to a dirty bomb that the NorKors play off as a "successful" nuke test, when they can't even keep electricity service running 24 hours a day. The comparison is like watermelons to raisins. North Korea is starving and being sustained with international food donations (while they spend half their GDP on tanks, missiles and artillery). South Korea has industry, technology, and an economy that makes them look like Japan did in the 80s. Free market economy v. Marxism: same result every time it's tried. Mr. Obama, call your office.

South is democratic republic, according to the CIA website. North is comunist with one man dictatorship. Souths GDP is $24,600. Everyone has food to eat, there are restaurants everywhere. There are luxuries and people buy them. Norths GDP is $1,900 and experience famines, and have eaten insects in the past to survive. They sometimes died because they couldn't move anywhere to find food. The South usually send rice food aid, unless they are holding back for political reasons as a bargaining tool. North and South both have interests in Gaesong Industrial park, were North provide the labor, and the South provide the technology and raw materials. North and South both are interested in Chondogyo or Chondoism. The South has experienced economic growth due to a controlled economy, restricted imports, they're encouraged to save money, and to consume less. One interesting example in history is that to overcome national debt, everyone took off their wedding rings to contribute. The CIA websites are a good source of info.
