What are the best books to get for learning Korean?

How should I begin learning Korean?

  • First off, my first language is Japanese, and I'm also fluent in English, and lately have been very interested in learning Korean. I'm dying to learn!!! From watching Korean dramas and shows, I find that it's sort of similar to Japanese. Some words even sound the same. Anyways.. I have been searching online for tips, websites, and videos to help me learn the language, but I do not know where to start! I heard learning how to read/ write is the best way to begin, is this true? Also, should I get any text books, or program, app, and are there any good websites to help me? Are there any good ways/routines. Kamsahamnida :)

  • Answer:

Your location is pretty important, it gives you access to opportunities to learn Korean. Since your first language is Japanese, I assume that you are currently in Japan. If so, there are plenty of language schools around (esp in Tokyo) that will teach you Korean. Furthermore, it is also easy to watch/rent Korean dramas from Tatsuya as well as buying Korean textbooks. I will also recommend http://www.lang-8.com for you to learn Korean, the website is hosted in Japan.

Called 늬은 /니은 (nee un) ㄷ- makes a d sound . Called 디긋 ( dee geout) ㄹ- makes a L sound. Called 리을 ( lee eoul) ㅁ- makes a m sound . Called 미음( mi eoum) ㅂ- makes a b sound . Called 비읍 ( bi eoub) ㅅ- makes a sh sound . Called 시옷 ( shi eout ) ㅇ- makes a uh soung . Called 이응 ( ee ung ) ㅈ- makes a g soung as in giraffe . Called 지옷 ( gi eout) ㅊ- makes a ch sound . Called 치옷 ( chi eout) ㅋ- makes a k sound. Called 키읏 ( ki eout ) but I am not sure . ㅌ- makes a t sound . Called 티읏 (ti eout ) but I am not sure either. ㅍ- makes a p sound . Called 피읍 ( pi eoub ) ㅎ- makes a h soung . Called 히읏 ( hi eou) ㅏ-Called 아 ( ah) ㅑ- Called 야 ( yah) ㅓ- Called 어( uh) ㅕ- Called 여( yuh) ㅗ- Called 오 ( o) ㅛ- Called 요(yo) ㅜ- Called 우 ( ooh) ㅠ- Called 유(yoo) ㅡ-Called 으 ( uhhh) ㅣ- Called 이( e) This is the main alphabet.

The BEST site to learn Korean is http://talktomeinkorean.com/ I swear, it's an AMAZING site. And very useful and you actually really LEARN the language. They break it down for you in lessons and they give a good learning pace and the site is just great to learn Korean. ^^; I've been studying on this site for 8 months now & I've learned quite a lot! I'm still learning because they have levels & I've been moving through these levels. They also have a youtube site, facebooks, tumblrs, etc. & The teachers are very friendly & they are very active & always get back to your questions when you ask them a question. You can add them on facebook and they will answer any of your questions or just talk with you like friends. ^^; In their lessons, there is a PDF file that you can study and also a voice lesson you listen to. Also, you can watch videos on extra tips and lessons that they teach. http://www.youtube.com/user/talktomeinkorean?blend=2&ob=1 I highly suggest them ^_^ As well as learning the language they also teach you about Korea's culture & give you interesting facts about Korea, great places to visit in Korea, etc.
