Do you think kpop will popular around the world?
-
I'm really curious, I heard 2NE1 are already planning their debut in America. It seems like kpop is getting more popular nowadays. Like the other day I found out six different people at my school listen to kpop, except they only know about bigbang and im pretty sure SHINee too. They aren't asian though, so i found it a little strange, because i never met a nonasian who likes kpop. What do you think about kpop getting more popular?

Answer:
Just because they debut in other countries besides Korea, it does not mean that they will be successful in that country. There are fans in every part of the world, but it will never be as popular as Michael Jackson or anything.

Honestly? No not really. Kpop isn't really different from the pop music that is produced around the world. The only difference is the language. I really hate people who think that kpop will ever be able to dominate the world's music markets or be extremely popular. Right now Kpop is only relevant on the internet and it will stay that way for a long long time. I do think that some idols have the potential of having international success in USA , but nothing major. The idols I think can be successful are 2ne1, Big Bang, Wonder Girls and Jay Park. Especially Jay Park There are these polls that kpop fans make that supposedly determine which group is popular in which country or even continent. Like few weeks ago there was some article that said that Big Bang is the most popular kpop group in Europe, but the people who did the poll asked like only 100 people in UK. Italy, Germany and Hungary, so how the hell can that be accurate. Lets be realistic here there are singers in the western world who sold more copies of their album then all the kpop groups put together since the popularity of kpop started in the 2000s. Look at Adele. She sold over 20 million copies of 1 album. Only 1 album. I highly doubt anyone in kpop will ever be able to beat that, even if you put together the most popular groups like TVXQ, 2ne1, SNSD, Big Bang, Super Junior etc.. and combine their sales numbers no one will be able to sell 20 million copies of 1 album.

More and more people are listening to kpop- half of my class does. They are getting fame in different parts of the world, especially America, Europe (SM Town Paris~), and the Philippines. It's a big influence on us, and different from American pop even though they are both pop. For one, they don't sing about sex, sluts, whores, etc. Some even compose their own music, and they show emotion and passion for it. The thing is, kpop also is a genre that they not only sing, but also dance along to, making it more interesting. Also, TIME Magazine has wrote about Big Bang more than once.

Okay I agree with the answer above ^ I think K-POP is better than American Pop but I think that some of the Americans won't like the concept of a new language. True that SNSD has already debuted, and 2NE1 is next! Its definitely spreading but will it be sucessful? Look at BoA- very popular in Korea! In America she had moderate success and again like the other comment said Adele is very popular and I don't think any K-pop band can beat that but I still hope! K-Pop has most definitely spread around the world! Will it be successful? Based on the results of some other K-pop artists I think their success will be moderate. K-Pop ftw. @You make my brain hurt- Lmao no one is worse than Bieber. @Joon- I know that K-Pop isn't the only thing we talk about in the Korea topic but why would you click on this if you don't like K-pop?
I hate k pop, and I'm annoyed. That's how much I hate k idiotic pop. HATE it!!!!!!! And I am Korean American.
It's more annoying that that Justin Beeber kid.
You Make My Brain Hurt

It's interesting! Well,i livein the UK i love korean culture,i dnt listen to kpop very much, but korean groups like cnblue and more calm korean music,i like! In my college,i think not a lot of people know about korea or kpop except what they've heard in the news,i'd love for korea to be a popular country,it could start by introducing kpop! But a sure there's other great things about Korea than just Kpop! But as i said it could start by the music,i would find it interesting if other people knew about korean singers/kpop etc..

I think only the super popular groups in Korea and other countries will make it,like BIGBANG.Maybe the Wonder Girls in the US,they're doing well.I wish that all kpop could be popular in the US,and not just the asian countries. But if krean idols work hard enough(idk if this is possible, they work so hard already),they might make it!
