Elementary, junior and senior high students have summer break from mid-late July until the end of August (usually). I don't know of any places personally that have classes (but there may be some places, I guess), but in junior and senior high the students often go to school for their clubs. The big competitions are all in the summer (local, prefectural, regional, national). Once those are over the students who will be graduation usually stop going to club so that they can study for their upcoming entrance exams, while the other students continue to go to practice. The practice schedule is determined by their coach, so some clubs may have practice only sometimes, while others may have it every day.

Summer Holiday - from 7/21 to 8/31. During that time, they go to school some days according to grades. So, not all the students go to school on the same day.
