How To Get Online Pass For Fifa12?

To get a Rail Pass for Japan or not to get the Rail Pass?

  • I'm going to Japan for two weeks soon. I will mainly stay in Tokyo (been there once already w/ Rail Pass and went from Tokyo to Hiroshima), but my sister is coming too this trip and she has not been to Japan yet so we do want to check out some of the other areas in Japan. We are thinking of doing the 2-day tour to Kyoto that JTB has offered (19000 yen includes round trip fare on Shinkansen and hotel room for the night), going to Nikko and Yokohama. I was wondering if it'd actually be worth it to shell out the extra bucks for a Rail Pass (we'd have to figure out our own lodging when we go to Kyoto of course and I dunno how muct extra that will be). In Tokyo, I believe our apartment is on the JR Yamanote Line so I figure we can use the Rail Pass when we move around in Tokyo. Of course if we get the Rail Pass we'll probably want to go to Osaka as a day trip to save money by not having to pay extra for lodging (we are already renting an apt for our entire time in Japan). Do you think we'd use the JR lines enough to justify getting the Rail Pass? Thanks for the advice!

  • Answer:

Oh yes, If you take 1 shinkansen trip from Tokyo to Kansai it is paid for and you don't need to worry about all the other side trips and stuff. It is pretty liberating to have it and a great value. Osaka is a great stop and so is Nara too if you are going to the Kansai area.

a trip to Kyoto or Osaka and the rail pass pays for itself.

In my experience with travelling in Japan, rail becomes basically your ONLY means of travel. Taxis are slow and expensive, buses aren't organised enough. For me, trains did the job, whether I was traveling long distance or just within the city. Having said that, JR isn't as comprehensive as some of the other rail services, particularly if you are travelling short distances. If you intend on doing a lot of long distance travelling, then definitley worth wile. But again, much of the city rail in Osaska is JR, so if you are going there it will do the trick for short distance travel there aswell.

JR Rail Pass is handy in that you dont have to break out your wallet every time you take a train. However if your main JR use will be the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Kyoto then to Osaka. I would suggest not to get it. JR trains in Tokyo city are cheap as it is, like anywhere between 160yen to 200yen per trip on the Yamanote train. The 2 week pass is too expensive compared to the 1 week pass but you also have to figure in trips to Nikko and Yokohama. JR is the most useful mode of transportation. Get the 1 week pass!

I use the JR Rail Pass when I'm in Japan, but that is because I stay about 70 minutes away from Tokyo along a JR line. It gives me the option of taking the nicer trains without paying extra. To calculate whether it is worth it to do it, look at the 7-day period of your heaviest travel (excluding the JTB trip). How many trips are you taking on JR? What is the cost of those trips regularly? For me, I looked at when I'd travel at least 5 out of 7 days, and then the Rail Pass was cheaper. Breakeven for me was about 4 days out of 7 days of moderate travel. I wouldn't bother with the Rail Pass if you are staying in Tokyo. There are private rail lines within Tokyo and subways that would not be covered by the JR Rail Pass.
