What are the popular Japanese channels in Japan?

In japan is ther tv channels in english and do they ever show the animes with engish subtitles?

  • Answer:

There are some channels, such as Fox Japan, that show English shows with Japanese subtitles. In other cases some channels might be bilingual which means you can switch between Japanese and English. For anime, you're looking at Japanese only.

If you just have a TV without cable or satellite, then you'll have just a few channels, depending on where you live. Maybe 5 different basic channels. NHK is the national TV station, so you can pick it up anywhere. As a resident in Japan, you are also expected to pay fees for this, but many people avoid it. If you live in Japan for awhile, you'll find out about that... NHK has many programs where you can flip a switch on your remote to change between Japanese or English. I've never seen anime in Japan with English subtitles. If you get cable or satellite TV, there are usually some English channels, but again, it's unlikely you'll find Japanese anime with English subtitles. Some people study Japanese just because they want to understand anime. That's cool. It's good to apply that to when you meet Japanese too though.

there are some channels in english, but mostly they are in japanese(which makes sense). i know that some channels have the option of switching to english or have english subtitles if you go to a certain channel or press a button on the remote. this is especially true of movies. otherwise, you'll just have to enjoy watching the pictures and not understand a word anyone says

If you have cable or satellite then you can get some english speaking channels, your usual package of discovery channel, CNN, or BBC news. For regular Japanese TV (eg the basic channels), some news broadcasts are in bilingual (you have to change the audio settings on your TV set) to hear where someone is dubbing over the Japanese speakers. Sometimes there will be special programing or movie that might be in English, however I don't think that is what you are looking for. For regular TV there is no dedicated Japanese English channel where every program is in English. For that, again you'll need to get yourself cable or satellite to get those channels If you live near a US military base in Japan, then you can usually pick up base channels that rebroadcasts some items from the USA. Anime on TV will not have English subtitles.

Yes. There are CNN, BBC, Animal Planet, Sesame Street and much more.

I've never been to Japan, I'd love to go, but according to Japan info websites there are some English channels on Japanese cable. There are also many shops which sell American goods, which probably has Japanese Anime with English subs. most anime discs no matter which country usually have English sub anyway. Hope this has helped

In Japan, on free to air tv they only have some shows which are in english (such as "Learn to Speak English.") Apart from that, they do not have any english shows. Even the English movies on BS1 and BS2 are voice overed in Japanese. Also, in Japan their anime shows are in Japanese with no English Subtitles. Do we have Japanese subtitles on our shows? You have to get cable and watch shows like CNN to get English.
