What places can you go to in Tokyo?

What are good places to go in Tokyo?

  • I'm going to Tokyo tomorrow for a 4 day traveling trip because of the 5/1 holiday. I'm bringing along my mom and dad, so it'd be nice if we could go to some sight seeing places. (A park, or some place with a lot of trees) Also, are there any places selling manga that's in english or chinese? Are there any places to buy cheap (but good qualitied) cosplay costumes? I'd appreciate it if I could get some addresses of the suggested places. Thank you!

  • Answer:

Akihabara and Harajuku are the places for cosplay costumes. Manga can be found everywhere but look in English bookstores or English sections for manga in english such as Tower Records. For sighting go to Asakusa to Senso-ji Temple, Ueno Park for temples, musuems, and shrines, Tokyo station area to see the site of old Edo castle, Meiji Shrine in Harajuku. If you have time, make a daytrip to Kamakura to see the temples, shrines, and big Buddha statue.

In addition to all those mentioned, I'd recommend visiting Shimokitazawa (下北沢) and Shibuya (渋谷). They are both very close to Shinjuku (~10 min by train). Shimokitazawa used to be my favorite place. It's a quite small town, but there are all sorts of things young Japanese people, like I was, would enjoy all day. There's all the entertainment like bars, arcades, pool halls, clubs, used clothing stores, cafes, etc. and they are all really inexpensive. There's good food for good price. Many nameless musicians perform live, rock, punk, underground. Shimokitazawa and Shibuya are known for its popularity among younger people, so they may be too noisy and busy for your parents, but I think those places are worth seeing only for like an hour. Some parts of Shibuya may be a good shopping spot for your parents as well.

OK If you want to go to some sight seeing urban town:Shinjuku(新宿),Odaiba(お台場),and Roppongi(六本木) historical place:Asakusa(浅草)is the best place I think. sorry my terrible English. If you have any question, mail me:) Have a good trip!!

In Shinjuku, you can visit Shinjuku gyoen a lovely park to have a respite after the hustle and bustle of such a modern, busy place. Asakusa is a must. Lots of shopping and history. The Yamanote line will take you to the most distinctive areas.
