What vibes do certain Japanese names give off?
-
I know people say that some Western names give off certain vibes. For example, "Gertrude" is sometimes seen as an "old lady-ish" kind of name, "Courtney" is seen as a "rich girl" name, etc. (No offense to anyone who might have those names!) Even if the people with those names don't always fit those images, people will still say things like, "Oh, THAT name sounds like a snobby girl's name!" or "That's a nerdy type of name!" and so on. So I was just wondering... are there any Japanese names that give off certain images/vibes to people in Japan? As in, Japanese versions of "old" people names or outdated/old-fashioned names, snobby sounding names, nerdy sounding names, attractive names, unattractive names, etc. ? (And I don't mean just based on your own personal opinions... but names where if you'd mention it to a random Japanese person, they would most likely agree that it gives off an image for a certain type of person) Thanks in advance!

Answer:
I've never come across those names you mentioned. but Elizabeth or Grace do sound 'gorgeous' to me. (probably OUR image from 'films'...) and "the people with those names don't always fit those images" ha-ha, very true!! About Japanese names, I think we judge the image from the names 'visually' (eventually the 'meaning of kanji'=chinese letters), 'phonetically' (I've heard that 'S' sounds the softest, 'H' & 'M' as well, while 'K' sounds strong for girl's name, and T, R or J all sound sharp..) Now I remembered the followings: (these names made a hit on TV drama(& anime), or commercial. 吉永 小百合 yoShinaga Sayuri (a nation-wide famous actress) the name became a synonym for 'beauty'? 早乙女 愛 Saotome ai 愛 means 'love' 白鳥 麗子 Shiratori reiko 麗 refers 'fascinating' - phonetically strong - Ken (Kenji, Kenichi), Takuma(Takuya, Tatsuo), Ryouma, Jouji etc. personally -sorry this is not what you meant- I remember as boys name, 'Akira' would give me an image of 'showy' when I was a child. I think people usually build up certain image from the name really 'personally' or 'experientially' About 'outdated' names, I think we have some image in common... like my (female) name 'sounds' old-fashioned.... (secret -lol-), like "Bonny" for male's like ”一郎 次郎 三郎”、”一平、ニ平、三平” are definitely 'old fashioned' I mean the naming system itself, which is just birth-order...

In Japan there is "old people" names but they don't really care. Just what the name means is good enough. My friends name is Yuri and she said it means "Flower" or something (I forgot :3).
