Is the people to people student ambassador program scam?

Japan trip in summer of 2011, what should/can I bring? For PTP Student Ambassador Program?

  • It is for the People to People Student Ambassador Program. I know there will be a lot of walking around and sight seeing, even hiking. What type of clothing/shoes should I bring; hiking shoes, tennis shoes, flip flops, shorts, jeans, tanks, t-shirts, etc? What electronics am I allowed to bring; laptop, camera, cell phone, ipod or cd player, hair straightener, etc? What bathroom things will I need; towels, wash cloths, shampoo & conditioner, body wash, etc? Are we allowed to, as a group, go shopping? Thanks ever so much to all who answer! Please, don't waste your time telling me it's a scam, because I know for a fact that it's not. Thanks.

I don't know about the PTP program, but I can tell you about being in Japan in the summer. It is hot. Very hot. And muggy. Bring clothes that aren't heavy and will let the air flow. Many Japanese people dress in layers, and while that seems hot, it often isn't too bad. A lot of people tend to wear a button down shirt over a tank top or t-shirt. Depending on where you will be, you may want to have your skin covered with some fabric. It will help to protect against bug bites, as well as the sun. It is easy to get burned even if you are out only for a little while. It may also help to bring a hat. Many Japanese people keep towels and small folding fans with them in the summer too. They can use the towels to help wipe off the sweat (females generally dab the towel at certain spots) and to fan themselves if needed. I would also bring small handkerchiefs or hand towels (although you can get them pretty much anywhere in Japan) since most bathrooms don't have paper towels. If you are going to do a lot of sight-seeing, bring tennis shoes for sure. Japanese girls wear heels a lot (even to temples, etc.,), but having comfortable shoes is a must.
