  Some popular day trips include -- Kamakura - 13th century capital of Japan. Now an affluent seaside town with a lot of old temples and big buddha statue. Nice walks in the hills. Hakone - Lake by mount Fuji with hot springs and an open air museum. Cable cars to the hilltops and boat rides on the lake. Nikko - World heritage sites include temples and shrines. Mount Takao - 600m high hill on the edge of Tokyo which affords views of the city in one direction and Mt. Fuji in the other. Possible to take a chair lift up if you don't want to hike.
