  • Answer:

There is no set price. I have never seen any guides on this. The general guideline is that if you can afford to travel, you will be able to afford a two week trip. If you can't (for whatever reason) then it might be best to shelve this idea until you can

Airfare from the US is usually around USD$1200-$1500 depending on port of departure and time of year. A regular hotel will set you back about USD$100 a night for a single room or USD$150 for a double. Try a Business Hotel for a good compromise with prices around USD$70 for a single room and USD$100 for a double. I recommend the Toyoko Inn hotel chain located all over Japan. Prices at regular Japanese restaurants are usually USD$8-$15 a meal, but food can cost you about USD$5-8 a meal if you eat at budget Japanese restaurants like Yoshinoya, Sukiya, and CoCo Ichiban Curry House. I would say about USD$80-100 a day is possible done on a budget.

Too many variables to be able to give you a good estimate. How do you spend? What do you like to do? What would you plan to do? Do you want to all 3 stay in a 5-star hotel or a simple Ryokan? Are you going to travel around Japan (very expensive) or just stay in the Tokyo area? Do you drink and party a lot? Go to one of the travel websites (Kayak, Expedia, Travelocity) and put in your dates. Flights will come up and you'll have the option to pick a hotel which is often much cheaper than booking them separately. Once you have that part of the trip budgeted then determine how you plan to spend based on what you like to do. It is very easy to spend well over $200 a day on just trains, food, seeing the sites per person. One of the things about Japan is that if you do not read, speak and understand Japanese it is very difficult to find the deals or eat, sleep, play where the Japanese play and you are stuck with things you recognize. Go to the library, check out the Lonely Planet Japan Guide or a similar book and start to plan. Do your research and then come back and ask more specific questions and you will be better prepared for the answer. You don't say how long you plan to go, not sure what a hotel ticket is but..... Japan is a trip of a lifetime simply because of how far it is and the cost involved. If I were planning today, to go to Japan by myself, knowing what I know and wanting to do what I want to do, I would need $3,000 for a week to 10 days after hotel and airfare are paid for. And I speak Japanese fluently and lived there for 6 years so know my way around very well and have lots of friends. Cheap food - Ramen Cheap Food and Drink - Izakaya (some of them) Cheap hotel - business hotel or ryokan Cheap airfare - $1,500 right now.
