What is the best place to buy polaroid 600 film?

Is it possible to buy polaroid 600 film in Japan?

  • I'm travelling to Japan in January 2011 and am wary about bringing my polaroid camera if I can't buy replacement film for it once I use the film packs I've already got. I'll be in Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo, are any camera shops that sell polaroid/impossible project film in any of those cities?

  • Answer:

I'd buy a digital camera for this. You'll be able to take 10 times more photos and of much better quality. Plus a digital camera will be much smaller to carry around.

I can tell you for certain that there are no longer any of the original film left. It may be that there is small supplies of new film might be available in a few select shops in large camera shops. Understand though that the exchange rate is going to kill you along with the amount the shopkeeper will charge you above and beyond what would seem fair. It would be MUCH cheaper and convenient to purchase a supply locally and bring it to Japan. Don't worry about 800 speed film (that is the speed of Polaroid 600 film) and X-ray machines at the airport. If you are the worrying type you can request to have your film hand checked. Understand also that navigating though large cities in search of a single camera shop that "might" have the film you want and communicating with clerks about it in a language you are not comfortable with is not an ideal way to spend vacation time. Up to you! Why not consider using the Fujifilm Instax Wide Format camera and film? I know it (just) isn't the same but it is widely available.

There's still something special about shooting on film, some people still enjoy using film like myself. It's like telling some artists they shouldn't use paint brush anymore because they can simply use adobe photoshop and get things done. Will it be better or to your purpose is subject to opinion. Polaroid has been discontinued in Japan, I would suggest you purchase as much as you need back home (possibly via Ebay) and come to Japan with it.

Polariod is, well, outdated. You may be able to find film, ask the instant film expert on where to find such. Oh, wait, the instant film expert didn't really answer your question. Man! Okay, then I am going to go with Carl_The_Truth and say that you should get into the digital age and forget that old stuff. Or find someone who can provide you with an actual answer to your question rather than just dancing around it. Final answer..... Give up the Polaroid and go digital.

Polaroid is already discontinued in Japan. So you can't.
