Where can I buy Japanese language study books in Singapore?

  • Where can I buy Japanese language study books in Singapore? I'm going to Singapore next month. I'm thinking of buying Kanji dictionaries, books, etc. Do you think I can get it at the National University of Singapore bookstore? Would you have any other places where I can look to buy books? Thanks.

    Hi, You may be able to get the textbooks they use for lessons in NUS at the Co-op bookstore but other books are really limited the last time I went there. Kinokuniya Bookstore in Ngee Ann City near Takashimaya has a VERY large Japanese language section and they have the best selection of books. They carry textbooks in English, Japanese, Chinese and a rare few in other languages. I've been studying the language for 3 years now and have always gotten my books & practices there. Try dropping by on a public holiday because Kino usually has a sale going on then in one of their 3 branches. (something like a 10 or 20% storewide discount) They have a counter for electronic dictionaries but I find them rather expensive. It's cheaper to buy them online. The Liang Court branch has a smaller collection and the one at Bugis probably has the worst. However even the Bugis branch will have more books than any of the other bookstores around. You can buy some major chain book shops such as MPH and Popular as well as Kinokuniya. If you wants to buy Japanese book, you have to go to Kinokuniya located in Takashima-ya or Bugis. However, you can find a learning book of Japanese language written in English. Japanese is one of the popular foreign languages in Singapore.
