  • Answer:

Some people get homesick. Not just for their family and friends, but also for certain foods, music, places, etc. Some people arrive in Japan and find that it is too different from their own country. Often the behaviors, attitudes, ways of speaking, traditional beliefs, and customs can be difficult to deal with. For some people, they realize that it doesn't suit them. Those who don't know Japanese or who have weak Japanese language skills can easily become lonely and feel isolated. If you don't know Japanese, your interactions with the people around you become extremely restricted. When you go shopping, to the grocery store, on television, on the subway, at events, etc. it is likely that there will be many people that are talking and laughing all around you, but you can't understand them. Sometimes you can find English-speakers, but sometimes the person/people you want to talk to don't speak English or it is simply annoying that you can't talk to just anyone. This is one of the biggest issues. Language barriers can really frustrate people.
