i want to know will they even hired me. i don't know how to speak japanese well. i only know some words but i'm learning. Is there places that will let you live there while your working for them?

Answer:
Japanese don't hire tourist cos they know it's illegal. If foreigner was in a small town, people would report it to the local police soon. And I guess the cost of gas in Japan eats your wallet up. Don't try to hitch a ride. It is rare to get stranger, even Japanese, to the car.

It's going to be tough. I've found that most Japanese people are sticklers for following the rules, whatever they might be. And the employment rules/ visa requirements are pretty tough. I don't see anybody taking you on to wash dishes for a few days here and there- you would probably freak people out just by asking. It might be possible to get some work tutoring English privately, but you would have to be established in the community and have connections in order to do so with any degree of success. The most common jobs for foreigners would be either teaching English/ tutoring or working as a host/ hostess in a bar. If either appeals to you, the best thing to do might be to try to get a work visa, go over there and work for several months. You could strike out and travel on your days off and save up, and then road trip near the end of your stay. Of course, you're not going to get a lot of vacation time with a lot of the major tutoring houses ("NOVA" = "No Vacation.") But good luck!

Not likely. Some foreigners find illegal day labor or restaurant work, but that will be tough to get if you don't speak Japanese. You have picked just about the toughest country on the world to road-trip in. Highways are all toll roads, they are as expensive as taking the train. Side roads are a nighmare to drive. If you want to see Japan and dramatically keep your costs down, buy a rail pass. http://www.japanrail.com/

"side roads are a nightmare to drive"? ...to each their own. Smelly Cat commented on errors: "Not going to happen." There is no subject nor verb, therefore this is not a sentence. No period is required. "...And" An ellipse followed by a capitalised conjunction? Whew! "There's at least 10+ errors" There ARE, not there is. Also, since you said "at least" so the + is superfluous. Have a nice day.

Not going to happen. You need a BA degree to get a work visa, BEFORE you get there. It will be illegal for you to work there other-wise...And you may want to proof read your post next time. There's at least 10+ errors...

I went on a 10 week backpacking trip to Japan. Here's how I did it: To get money: I got a small laptop (eeepc), and I wrote for Associated Content. They pay for articles. I simply reviewed places in Japan, got about $7 [about 1000 Yen] for each one, paid to a PayPal account. I used my PayPal debit card to withdraw the cash from 7/11 stores. Very convenient, because articles can be written anywhere, and internet is available nearly everywhere in Japan. - You won't find work for cash, because that is illegal, but you may find work in return for things like a room for the night, a nice meal, and a nice time with a family. Many families run a business in the front of the store, and live in the back. If you can help them in someway (repairs, cleaning, stocking, running errands, English lessons, etc), than they may in return give you a room for the night and a hot meal. The cash saved from Hostels and hotels and food starts to add up, and it is nice to feel welcomed into a family. This, however, will be difficult if you can't communicate with them. MONEY SAVING TIPS - I got a japan rail pass, good for 21 days. It is absolutely the best route to go in Japan, as it is free for any trips. This is very nice. For example, traveling from Tokyo to Osaka without one would cost about $300. With the pass, you can do it however many times you'd like for free. Not to mention the bullet trains go 180 mph, faster than a car. - Camping. I camped on several occasions. It is very cheap, and costs almost nothing. Japan is very safe, so camping is relaxing. - Sleep in 24 hour internet cafes. They are cheap and private, with a computer and tv and robot-recliner (fancy recliner), a good place to sleep. - Look for bentou buffets. They have good food, and usually cost about 150 yen for 100 grams of food. Also, try to eat 'quick' food for breakfast and lunch, and save the 'real' meals for dinner. For example, have a pack of powdered shakes to use for breakfast, and packs of dried fish and other vending machine goodies for lunch. They are cheap, and actually taste good. You'll have a blast, just be sure to have enough money to get home ;p

I'm sure there are places, but it's illegal and most places wouldn't hire a foreigner that didn't speak Japanese unless they were really hurting for help. Besides, if you did work illegally and they didn't pay you, or didn't pay you what was promised you'd have no recourse to get your money from them. I would say that if your country takes part in the Working Holiday programme you might look into that.

A road trip usually means traveling by car or motorcycle... There are no roads for cars to take to Japan. If you really are looking to do a road trip in Japan, working along the way, then you're going to have to make your stops at least month-long ones. Maybe you could work as a bartender in some gaijin bars. I don't think you want to be teaching English, although some people may recommend it. You'd be treading on dangerous ground not knowing what you can do, but expecting employment. What do you do at home? What are your skills? How can you be of service to people? Watch out for those yakuza daughters!
