What is daily life like in Japan studying for University Exams?

  • I have a friend from Japan who is busy studying for her University Exams this month and in February. For anyone whose gone through this experience, what was your life socially like when you were preparing for the exams? Did you have cram school after school, and then have to study more after that? Did you ever have any time for your friends? Was there enormous pressure from your family and peers? Did you feel completely burned out but forced yourself to continue studying? My friend is a smart girl who takes school seriously, and living in the US without that kind of tense educational atmosphere, I've always wanted to know what it's like that she's going through. I understand that getting into the right college is a major part of one's life in Japan, but I'd like to know on a visceral level. Any insights from someone whose experienced this is greatly appreciated!

  • Answer:

Yes, pressure was much when your college exam is just a few months away. But you would have at least some time to meet friends. It depends on each person. And you go to a school anyway. It depends on each person how seriously he would take exams. As you said your friend takes is seriously, I think she wants to concentrate on it.
