I assume you are talking about high school, not college. College costs more because you often pay tuition to that university. Each program has its own fees. (YFU and Rotary are two more popular ones) If you want to figure out how much you need, you should keep track of whatever you spend/your parents spend on you in a month. You will probably spend a little more than that because you will want to buy extra souvenirs. Then multiply that number by how many months you want to stay there. Some people spend more, some spend less so any real number we give you would be just a guess. So: how much you spend in a month X number of months + about $2,500 for a round trip ticket + $500 for a semester or $1,000 for a year to make up for various public transportation and other fees you might encounter This should give you a rough estimate.
