How to look like a model from a magazine?

Print/Magazine modelling in Tokyo?

  • I admire Japanese fashion magazines such as ViVi and Glamourous, and I love watching shows like the Tokyo Girls Collection. and would like to launch a career as a print/magazine model in Tokyo in the next few years. I know that the "eurasian" look is very popular, a lot of the models are mixed, and that suits me quite well, as I am part Japanese. I'm 15 years old and living in England. Since I know that I should take the first step, I am actually starting Japanese language lessons in the next few weeks.... I am 5'6" tall, which isn't really that tall, but I was doing research, and surprisingly I found that print models in Japan are usually around 5'3" - 5'7" Even top ViVi model, Lena Fujii, is 5'3". Would my height be ok, then? This is something I really would like to do, but i'd like to know how to get started out, and other details. Any information would be greatly appreciated. This is a dream of mine!

  • Answer:

Well first you need to build a portfolio of shots. I would suggest working with a couple photographers on Head shots as well as full body in various poses and settings. The reason I say a couple photographers is because photographers have their own styles and the end result is different. It also conveys that you are serious to the modeling agency. Next you need to contact a legitimate company to represent you. Japanese language of course will be very helpful. Best of luck.

the height 5'6"(roughly 168cm) would be no problem. some models have that level like Naoko Tokuzawa(top left 168cm).Maki Nishiyama(top middle 168cm), Maryjun Takahashi(top right 169cm) as below for example. http://cancam.tv/profile/index.html The problem is how come you appeal your possible talent to some model agencies in Japan
