Answer:
about $11,000 should cover 4 people for two weeks if you get good deals on the plane tickets.(depending on the location) I is nearly impossible to communicate in a foreign land with no language experience. Most Japanese do not speak English, and the ones that do are hard to understand. On billboards, the name is usually in romanji.

It will be at least $3,000+ for the airfare. And that's a cramped tourist seat...So the person who said $11,000 is probably close...Japan is not a cheap place to visit. Most Japanese do not speak English. And most everything will be written in Japanese text, NOT romaji. Very little will be in English. It's JAPAN !!!!!

I'm going to Japan in 4 weeks and I can tell you how much it's cost me. A plane ticket for Dec. cost me $1600 and it was purchased on Orbitz.com. My boyfriend lives in Japan so I'm staying with him, I can't tell you how much a hotel would cost but ryokan (traditional inns) are inexpensive. $627 is the cost of 10 days in Japan including sight seeing in Tokyo, Yokohama, Hakone (Mt Fuji), Edoland (theme park), all meals, and transportation. So you can go from there and multiply it by 3. Oh and I'm flying out of Miami so the fare might be less or more depending where you live. All the signs in the subways and train stations have English as well so you dont have to worry about that and all major tourist areas have employees that speak English and that includes Narita airport (the airport near Tokyo) Most Japanese studied English but they don't remember much. I recommend you buy a phrase book. I promise you Japanese will appreciate your attempt at speaking their language and they will help you with their broken English. Just have fun with it! I hope this helps!
As many others answered, air fare depends on where you depart from. There are a lot of web site which sells cheaper tickets. Then accommodation, in Tokyo a hotel costs you around $90 to 100 per person, if you stay reasonably cheaper hotel. If you have a lot of money, you can find 3 or 4 times expensive and better service hotel. I don't think you'd better to stay in Tokyo for two weeks, if your budget is not much. If other place, Hotel or Ryokan ( Japanese Traditional Hotel) costs you around $60 to 80. Off course you can find more expensive one, if you want. And you also consider about travel expenses. If you ride Shinkansen (Bullet Train) from Tokyo to Osaka, it costs you around $110, but if you ride a bus, which operates only during night, it costs you $60. If you have a lot of time and you don't mind you can also normal train, it also costs you around $60. Taxi is very expensive in Japan, first ride minimum of around 2km costs you $5.4 and succeeding every 400m costs you around $0.8. So let me compute this way. You will be three person and two weeks to stay. Accommodation 3 times $80 times 13days = $3,120. Travel Expenses 3 times $30 times 14days = $1,260. Foods 3 times $30 times 14days = $1,260. I think it's a reasonably cheaper quote.

Where are you going? I know you want to hear a cheaper out come of price, but the truth is you will not find a truthful one. A vacation with that many people will run A LOT. You want to buy trinkets and keepsakes don't you. I bet you probably want to eat good and various Japanese food. Enter temples. Got to events. A Japanese Onsen. You could probably skate by on less money if you don't want to enjoy your stay. But I doubt you want to do that. $11,000 is probably already a "smart" price. but come on, you have 4 people, take out a small loan and have the time of your life. seriously.

Almost every one who goes to Japan could give you a different price because they have their own special plan. To get realistic with a plan see a agency that specializes in travel. You will know to the penny without guessing. Oh don't forget to take along extra cash to bring back some or those things you like
