What's Life Like in Japan?
-
I have always been interested in Japan. I want to live there one day. (: But what's it like there; Like... Government? Environment? Any Major Prejudisms? Everyday Life?

Answer:
Very quiet. Noise and loud talking are not tolerated, including cell phone conversations on public transportation. Most places are very clean. The service industry is very extreme: Most shops are extremely polite and will smile, but some of the smaller vendors can be cold and unfriendly. Strangers do not talk to you and can be even wary of you. The "faceless" stranger will not be polite to you; for example, the person behind you when he's in a rush, or the train passenger who wants that seat. Major train stations are utterly crowded, but it's an organized chaos. Modern life in Japan is very extreme: Behind the everyday surface of politeness and conformity, there is a "wild" and "crude" side (fetishes, bullying, and a "different" perspective on suicide). Very safe and civilized.

Depends on where you live in Japan. Everyday urban life is: 1. Wake up, eat breakfast (or not), ride your bike or get on a very crowded commuter train into the business district or go to school. 2. long hours at work or school and more hours after work doing overtime or doing school clubs/activities. 3. Come home late. 4. Sleep the repeat from step 1 in the morning. Government: Parliamentary Democracy. Environment: Not sure what you mean by this one, Japan has four seasons, Winter, Spring, Summer, Autumn/Fall. Weather varies depending on which part of Japan you lived in.

Tentacle rape. Do say what? You've got overcrowded cities, with many people living in the suburbs to avoid that crowding. Office workers often work very long hours. Of course some of them spend that extra expected time sleeping in their cars by the side of the road. The government does the same smoke and mirrors dance, saying that they are going to do something about problems but never seeming to do it. Environment, with the exception of tentacle rape, which I have no idea what that is, I think that most cities are generally safer than those in the U.S. Much less violent crime. Japanese people often are prejudiced against Koreans, but seem to accept Americans rather well. Unless you like teaching English for a living, I would suggest finding another place to live.
