Can an American Girl model in Japan?

I lived in Japan for 10 years.... and the answer is yes.... with a student visa or a tourist visa or any kind of visa.... they don't really care. most likely you'll get paid under the table.... just like about ALL of the people teaching English in Japan. Be careful.... Japan is basically a male driven society. my sister lived there for 3 years, taught English and was treated very poorly by all the men (who only wanted sex with a foreigner) and disliked by the Japanese women because she was blond and different. You can make decent money if you have that (I'm sooo skinny and hungry I could eat a house look.) I knew some girls that were making up around $5k a month. But the bottom line is be careful, check out the agencies, and have fun.... don't believe anyone that says you can't do this..... one way to get into this would be to go to Roppongi, and start talking to some of the girls that look like models.... they can help you when you get there. But maybe you should think of school.... you will find that schools in Japan are not like the ones in the states... you'll actually have to study. LOL

very difficult question to answer. do you know why?? because I do not know your race, American is not race. If you are white female with good proportion and Asian type appearance, YES. Why do not you check リアディゾン。 she is not Japanese but seems like a white girl with Asian look. She is mix. Just being non-native Japanese with higher height than average Japanese girl will not help you become model he re. "So White girl" is just a "foreigner" for Japanese. Also, I think if there are one American model and European model, which one do you think will get hired as model you think? Obviously European. Also, we are not obssesed with western looks. not as simple as you think

There isn't a law to forbid you to work within the permitted hours as a model. There are agencies who register girls as models and send them to clients( companies who need a model to promote their products, especially if they try to sell these products abroad). It won't be a regular job, but it pays better than serving coffee or working as TA in the university. I would advice you to talk first with your foreign student adviser or the local volunteer organization which helps foreigners. From them you can receive best recommendation about models agency. You can also post a classified in some gaijin magazines /newspapers/sites, but it is good to as somebody's advise before accepting any offer. Requirements are to look good enough to sell products.Some of the cheaper models aren't even attractive, and not that skinny... The risks are that the agency sends you to people, who don't really want a model for a photo session. Or cheats you one way or another, or you become victim of sexual harassment.

There are so many fake agencies and managers who would say sweet lips to cheat you. Be aware well. Usually reputational professional models are registered in USA originally who would be requested to show up by international agency to Japanese stages.
