What is the cheapest way I can transfer money from Hongkong to the US?

Does anyone know what is the best way to transfer money from Singapore to japan ?

  • Does anyone here have any experiance in transfering money from singapore to japan? I need to transfer some money to a friend who is in japan. what are the charges like? Is it better to transfer SGD or Yen? How can my friend receive the money on his side?

  • Answer:

Bank transfer to another bank in Singapore. The charge from my Japanese bank, Mizuho, is 5,000 yen when I send money to the US. Or try EMS at the Post Office. I know people who have done that before. Good luck.

You can try western union. They have that service at the Singapore post offices. They'll charge you a few for the amt that you need to transfer. And they accept SG dollars only. I think your friend have to go to a western union outlet there and there's a 10 digit number that is unique to that transaction which you can tell your friend. And he'll only get the money when he reiterates the same 10 digit number on the other side. Hope this helps.

You have to ask your bank which bank is their receiving bank in Japan. If your friend's bank is your bank's receiving bank in Japan, then your friend will be paying less on international transfer fee. Even then your friend be charged at least around 3000 yen for the transfer. If your friend's brank is not your bank's receiving bank in Japan, this fee will be more as more charges applied as your money is being transferred from the receiving bank to the designated bank. If you do a TT, it's better to transfer SGD, because that's the default TT currency. Otherwise they'll convert your yen to SGD, then back to yen (though, check with your bank's policy). If you trust you friend, the cheapest way to send money to Japan is via registered post (express or otherwise). Japanese sends money through the postal service all the time and it's not illegal there.

Try Western Union. They are fast and reliable. Remittance cost depends on the amount you are sending.

That would be difficult to say unless I had more info.. Is it US Dollars? Is it in an account in Singapore and you want the bank to transfer? If it is money in YOUR pocket and you want to transfer to a person in Japan, use Money Express.. that is what I use for persons in Latin America

If he has fixed address and has alien registration card in Japan. I think you can send by International money order (cheque) from SingPost . Ask them what is necessary for both side. Charge is cheaper than the bank. I think.
