Hi, i'm aba and i'm an 18 year old male in Botswana. If you do not know where botswana is then just know its in Africa. ever since i turned 13 i started to hate this place so bad that simply looking at it makes me sick. This is my home i am a full Botswana i was born and raised here, but i really hate it. when i turned 16 i started to go through depression and i found it so hard to sleep sometimes, but then i heard of Japan and i started to like it i like evrything about it, the sites the cities and the culture. My problem is that i can't speak japanese, i'm not smart and i score very low grades and i don't have the money to get there. i could get the money but it will take too much time so i thought about working in Japan. Watching Japanese art and movies make me happy but i want to stay there. My friends think I'm smart but i'm not. so is it possible to get a job in Japan despite all my flaws?

Answer:
LoL Boyaki, thumbs up for the 3K job. Baatweng, it will take you so much time, effort and money for you to just live and work in here. I think it's not that very practical anymore. It's not that I'm discouraging you. And stay away from the 3K jobs LoL =))

Right now, no. You need at least a Bachelor's Degree to qualify for a Visa to live in Japan. Also, 90% of the jobs to foreigners will be in teaching English. I assume that English is not your native language? Well, sorry, but native speakers are going to get the jobs first. Any other type of job is going to be of the 3 K variety- kiken, kitsui, kitanai (dangerous, difficult, dirty). And you could probably only get those with a mid to high level of Japanese. I suggest that you try a visit first, since right now moving here is an impossibility. Also, it looks like you'll have to apply for a visa to even visit here. Looks like Botswana doesn't have a visa exemption agreement with Japan. http://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/

Being in Japan is not so great. Do you really think the movies and art etc. are a realistic image of real life? Perhaps you also think superheroes fly through the Tokyo skies and save Japan from monsters? Of course not. Even if you can actually get here you'll probably end up disappointed. You know that people used to think the streets of London were paved with gold? Not literally, but it was the city of opportunities, the grass was greener and the jobs were available and the women were easy. That was the rumour anyway, but then when people got there they found that the streets were of paving or dirt, the grass was rare, the jobs were already taken and the easy women were riddled with diseases. The easy way for you to move here would be to marry a Japanese national who was willing to help you get a visa, but it would be a really horrible thing to do. Using someone like that. Then when one of you found love you'd have to get divorced and you'd be out of Japan again. Your English seems good, written anyway. I don't know about Botswana or the language, but your English is better than some I've seen, including some who claim they teach English in Japan. (Lose/loose, there/their/they're, if these people can't tell the difference what the hell are they doing here?) If you come here you might even end up working in the sex industry. Pimping or something worse. It's not safe, and it's not nice. It's not legal either, and if they found you they'd deport you brutally and you'd never be able to come back. If it's the art and the movies that you love so much then learn to realise the difference. Set your mind to something you can achieve, and save money so you can visit Japan and see the truth. Go off the tourist routes and see how different yet ordinary it all is.

All you need is a four year a degree & a job skill they need. If you don't have that, no-one can work there. Sorry.

Yeah, I think Japan is unnecessarily difficult. So you dislike Botswana, OK. I'm sure many people from Botswana become expatriates. I know that the UK and the USA and European Union have lots of immigrants from all parts of Africa. Not only is it a foreign country, but there is a community of people in a similar situation as you. That's a good feeling sometimes, to have someone around who's experiencing the same thing. Just thinking, since your English is so good, it would be easier to go there and go to community college or something while you work if you don't have enough money now. But of course Japan is also a good choice. I would recommend you start at a Japanese Language School that has scholarships for students from developing countries. Check out the YMCA Japanese Language School in Japan. You have the YMCA in Botswana, right? Well in Japan they have a college for foreign students of Japanese. I think this is a very good option for you. http://www.ymcajapan.org/ayc/nihongo/EN/EN_about_YMCA.html there are other options for schools, but coming as a student initially is the best way if you are serious about making a commitment to living in Japan.

Well, you seems smart from the way you write English, so my guess is that you are smart enough to learn Japanese. It's not that difficult. There is a huge difference between getting bad grades and not being smart - you should stop saying "I'm not smart" immediately. Never say that again. There are several ways you could get to Japan, however they will require work. First of all, you should start learning Japanese. You don't need any money. Here is one site, but there are many more. Just google free Japanese lessons. http://www.freejapaneselessons.com/ Next, you should get a job and save as much money as possible. Look up different programs for teaching English in Japan. There are many, many available. You will have to do some research on your own about that. If you can get to Japan, you might be able to just find a job in the countryside teaching English. Make sure that you look presentable and not sloppy. If you really love the culture I think you might appreciate being in Japan. However, keep in mind that Japan is a pretty close-minded country and has a lot of subtle prejudice against foreigners (gaijin), particularly those who are not white. So keep that in mind. If going to Japan is your dream, you can accomplish it by being resourceful, doing research, saving money, and learning Japanese on your own. You are obviously smart, so I'm sure you can do it. Good luck!

There is other things you can do besides teaching english and if you do want to teach english it doesn't have to be your native tounge, but you have to be able to speak and read and write english pretty good. But other then english there is a lot of other jobs you can do. I mean my neighbor is from nigeria and he works on a factory. If you were to come here and see what other people do who don't have degrees, you would understand more. Around tokyo and yokohama area there are a lot fo things you can do for work.

Not at all.... Take up some Japanese lessons and get a job in the meantime, then do a degree in the language/culture and see if you still like it. If you do, even after all the frustrations you may well encounter, fantastic. Otherwise... try sometihng else. One thing I should warn you: Japanese is not the easiest of things to learn, but it is very rewarding.

LOL! Well, actually I have heard of Botswana! Actually there are quite a few Africans from Tanzania, West Africa, Nigeria and South Africa in Japan these days, though I have never met any from Botswana yet! Many work in factories, music industry, trading, law, religious activities, selling clothes and imports, teaching or are married to Japanese and raising families here. Most say they learn Japanese very fast once they are here and usually learn while they are working. Many are very happy, but complain that the weather is very cold here, work is exhausting and long hours and sometimes it is difficult to meet people and make friends. If you do come to Japan, you may develop an appreciation for your own country more than anything, but that also would be a good thing!
