What Jobs Are In High Demand In Japan?
-
I want to move to Japan when I'm an adult and I was wondering about what jobs I'd be able to get. I know that nurses are in high demand but they only make little money and you can't become a doctor unless you're a natural born citizen so I'm not sure if I could become a nurse either. I would like to do photography, botany, art, be a park ranger, or something like one of those jobs. Since I have no clue what kind of jobs are available I'd like you to know that I'm very good with computers and other electronics.

Answer:
Jobs in high demand are always low-paying or so-called "3-D (dull, dirty, dangerous)" jobs, or both of them. Good jobs are filled by workers as soon as it becomes vacant. This is the world we live. If you don't want to become a nurse just because it's low-paying, there would not be any job for you. (But of course, you can't become a nurse easily as you are not a Japanese) Japan is in the middle of the worst recession since WW2. No job is really in high demand. Only workers' supply is high. If you want to have a "good" job in this situation, the only way is to acquire really high-level skill which no one else in Japan has. Or there is no way to get a good job in Japan, especially for foreigners.

Outside of teaching English & high tech jobs there is little available to non-Japanese. You don't say how old you are. You need a four year degree to get a work visa. And to get the work visa you need a job offer before you get there. I think they only allow nurses aids from the Philippines & Indonesia. Upper level nurses would need to graduate from a Japanese college. The other jobs you mentioned are highly unlikely. You would need native level Japanese to do them. And there's already plenty of native Japanese people willing to take these jobs when there is an opening. The only jobs available are the ones Japanese can't do. An employer has to sponsor the employee for a work visa. So these type of jobs will always go to someone who already lives there. You can look at the web site below to get an idea of what kind of jobs employers are offering. I don't want to be a dream killer, but Japan isn't an immigrant friendly country. EDIT: Sorry, but all higher end medical jobs would require that person to graduate from a Japanese college. That requires above native Japanese and over $80,000 to attend the school(s).Chances of a non-Japanese being hired is slim to none.
