Who built the great wall of china and why and mostly WHEN! help!?

• Ok, I have a social studies project due next week. Yea not allot of time though. Ok can anyone please tell me who built it and why and when? Please if i don't have any of these facts said out loud to the class i'll fail:/ Ok and i would love it if you can also state important facts like this: Why is it important to the chinese history.   The emperor named Qin Shi Huang started the project in 221 BC by connecting former walls from old fortresses and existing walls in the Warring States period where China broke into couple to states fighting for power. The project continued during the Ming Dynasty. The Great Wall served the purpose of keeping invaders from the north from attacking the Chinese dynasty throughout centuries.
