Burining DVD's?

What's the deal with bringing DVDs overseas (from China to America)?

  • I am currently living in China and will be here for another year and 1/2. My DVD collection is already building up to be pretty large (I LOVE MOVIES) mainly because they are SO CHEAP here. I do know that nearly 99% of all the DVDs i buy are not legit - you simply can not get legit DVDs in the city where I live...i only ASSUME that some are not bootleg. The DVDs are all excellent quality, it's not like some dude sat in a theater and recorded the film with a camera...these DVDs are like copies of DVDs or copies of screeners. ANYWAY, what are the laws? What are the cons? I have brought MANY DVDs from China back to America before (this isn't my first trip) and have NEVER had any problems. My wife is mainly scared that I will "get caught" and spend the rest of my life in prison...

    Well when you get back to America, the customs office at the airport may think you are going to sell all these DVD's. I see where your wife is coming from, but if you have done it in the past, I don't see the problem.

As you have almost said that there not legal copies you have 2 choices ditch them or try your luck. If USA customs do stop and search you they will take your DVDs off you and destroy them and then fine you in accordance to USA laws. Out of the 50 odd times I've gone through a countries customs I have only been searched one and that was because I had a hand held photo printer in my hand baggage and the X-ray operator didn't recognised the pattern on this screen.
