How would I be able to live in Hong Kong?

• After university, I want to take the science path and become a chemical engineer, and then go and live in Hong Kong because I love that place. My parents told me that for me to get employed in Hong Kong I have to learn Cantonese, which I'm willing to no matter how hard seeing as my cousin managed to learn fluent German in a year. They also said that I can't take the science path, I have to go and be a bank manager/account/marketing executive, but I detest all those things, like I would probably regret having one of those jobs for the rest of my life. Is there still a lot of demand for engineers in Hong Kong?

  To be completely honest.................... Yes I believe you could do these things. How much Cantonese do you know? Cantonese is one of those languages that you can pick up pretty quickly by listening to people speak it. Although there is economic recession right now, in a few years Hong Kong like the rest of the world will be making a ton of money. The fact that you get a foreign education counts for something, because Hong Kong people like to see that. That fact that you speak English is good as well, because you'll definitely need that here. For your line of work, there is always something to do. However, I highly recommend you find somewhere you can live cheaply and are happy with before you come. Hong Kong is much like New York in this respect- housing is expensive. You'll regret coming here if you have to live in a **** place. But seriously, I hope you come. Hong Kong is great if you like the city. P.S. If you are truly interested in learning Cantonese early, email me or something and I can recommend some books or good websites.
