Does Gamefly normally have long shipping delays?

Maritime shipping lanes in the south china sea - since April 1st 2011 ?

  • I have been recently emailed by someone saying that the earthquake in japan a few months ago - HAS effected the shipping lanes in the south china sea so goods from china will be the subject to lengthy delays , is there any truth in this statement ?

  • Answer:

Aside from the instantaneous "Tsunami Warning" issued for what amounted to a 12" wave, the earthquake in Japan had absolutely no effect on the current maritime situation in the South China Sea. Any hindrances to shipping traffic there would likely be the result the PRC attempting to control the waters they have recently laid claim to, or the stoppage and boarding of ships suspected of illegally carrying arms from the DPRK via China's ports.

That statement is ridiculous. The earthquake in Japan had zero impact on Chinese manufacturing and no effect on "shipping lanes" in the ocean. Someone is lying to you. The only disruptions related to the Japanese earthquake are at factories in the immediate quake/tsunami/radiation zone (within 30 miles of Fukushima). Everything is normal in Tokyo and certainly normal in neighboring countries.
