What places in the Philippines compare best with Shanghai and with Beijing?

Study in Beijing or Shanghai...or somewhere else?

  • Ok so I will probably be going to China over the summer. Which by the way if there is a program you have in mind, could you please suggest one... Where my family members could be there, not take the class but actually supervise me...My grandma...basically. But just feel free to suggest anything I guess... Anyways, most programs are designed for either Beijing or Shanghai. My Grandfather told my father that I should go to Beijing as in Shanghai they speak totally different. I DO have family in Beijing (I think) but they are so distant and I've never met them. I wanted to go to Shanghai but if its really that different, I guess Beijing is fine too. IS 北京话 really similar to Mandarin? Is 上海话 really that different to the point where it might damage my linguistic learning? I know Chinese already, its just very bad... I know a few of my Cousins from the Philippines (they are Chinese) took a program similar to this and they went to Qingdao I think... but suggest any program or any city.... an environment in Which i could learn Mandarin much better.

People in Beijing speaks Mandarin, there is no dialect, but in Shanghai there is actually a Shanghai dialect, but if you are going to be in a program in an university, it does not matter because everyone will speaking Mandarin. Shanghai and Beijing are essentially different, one is more economic, and the other is political, so it all depends on yourself.
