What is a scam?

What is Chinese telephone scam? I read that many Chinese nationals were operating this scam from Macao?

  • When I searched the wiki article on telephone scam, I found several different types of telephone scams but no entry on Chinese telephone scam that Chinese nationals were operating out of Macao. Does anybody have any idea about the modus operandi of mainland Chinese telephone scam artists?

    Living in Taiwan, I get calls from Mainlander telephone scams about once a week. Their favorite one is pretending to be the phone company and telling me I am behind on my payments. They threaten to cut off the phone if I don't immediately wire money to some bank account they give me. @Everyone in Taiwan: Be wary of such calls fitting that mous operendi.

I dont know about the scam artists from the mainland China, but I am sure such kind of people exist in China or anywhere in the world. For example, in the usa and even in japan, some scam artists target senor citizens telling old people that there was a million dollars waiting for them to claim. Unfortunately, according to the reports, some old people did lose their retirement funds to the scam artists. How sad .... By the way, scams are said to be very flourished in Wall Street. Is that true ? .
