Can I get a good job in China without a college degree?
-
I'm a white American; I'm 21 years old. I've been studying Mandarin Chinese a long time, and I'm told I speak really well. I don't have a college degree yet, but I'm very interested in leaving to live in China for a year or two (or three). Will I be able to find a good job? Please comment! Thank you! =) 谢谢! =)

iachiamo is correct. The others know nothing. But teaching is not the best answer. The only job you technically need a degree for is teaching English for reasons I don't know. That being said, it's not really enforced and you can teach English no problem without one. There are lots of jobs for you. Probably should work for a trade company if you speak Chinese. They won't pay you much at first, maybe 3000 to 5000RMB per month. Hard to live on and long hours, but it's a real job. Teaching English ruins people. Or there are lots of sales jobs. Working on commissions but if you work hard you can make a lot of money. Relocation companies would also hire you. They have a good system for moving up fast if you are smart. Starting pay is usually around 10,000RMB per month. Try Santa Fe, Asian Tigers, Links or Crowne Reolcation.

The previous answers are just wrong. This is China, English teaching jobs grow on trees. Any English training with any proper sort of PSB guanxi can get you a visa/work permit without a degree. Salaries should start at 1500 USD/ Month in coastall cities, a little less out west.

The only real way to work in China would be to work for a US company doing business in China. You can't just turn up and look for a job. China has immigration and work permit policies just like any other country. To obtain the necessary working visa you need to have found the job before you arrive. It is illegal to work on a non-work visa. You normally cannot legally work in a job which could be done equally well by a local. This leaves English teaching as the only real alternative, but you must have a university degree to teach legally.

A good job? What is meant by good. Good is really a relative term... Something good for Chinese may not be good for you... You can of course land into a English teaching job with a bit of guanxi.
