How much spending money will I need for Hong Kong?

• Hi, I'm going to Hong Kong with my family at the end of November. I'm 17 and with a casual job at the moment so I can't go to excessive lengths of money but I'd really like an idea of how much AU$ I should have aside for spending. I have my flight, accommodation, food and activities sorted already but I'm completely stumped on how much I should take for shopping! The main items I plan to buy would be such as clothes, cosmetics, bags/wallets and maybe even a camera. I hope that gives you an item on how much I may need. Also for the Australian duty-free laws as I'm not 18 yet I can only bring in $450 worth of items back home without tax. Any idea on how much extra taxes would be if I were to go over the set limit? Help would be much appreciated, thank you!

  Depends on where you want to shop. Personally I LOVE to shop at the Ladies market in Prince Edward / Mongkok station. You take the MTR there. Ask any local, they will help you find your way there. All the signs are in English so you will have no problems! I was born and raised there and only speak English so don't worry about language barriers too much! :) If you go to the ladies market you can buy amazing clothes for cheap prices, such as tops for $40-$200 HK dollars, dresses for $60-$300, bags/wallets unbranded $60-$150 If you want to shop for branded clothing, go to the malls such as IFC, Pacific Place, Times Square, but prices will be the same as anywhere else. For makeup I suggest you go to a SASA store (they are EVERYWHERE! especially in Central and Causeway Bay) and you can buy the regular brands, like Maybelline, L'oreal etc and some cheaper local brands too! it's a great store! I don't know if I would buy a camera in Hong Kong, they are a lot cheaper in the USA! but I'm not about comparing to Australia prices. If you really want a camera though, I suggest going to Times Square in Causeway Bay, and go to the top floors where they sell electronics.
