How do I find an inexpensive tour to Northern Italy?

How do I find a genuine BEIJING tour guide? Any experience with good tour guides? Referrals?

I don't mind paying for one or a free student wanting to learn English, however I've read so many horror stories online about kickbacks, and bad tours/tour guides. Some have suggested facebook, but how do I search for this? Thanks everyone.

I'd ignore tour guides and find a list of places you want to go and work from that, or get a student to take you. The tour guides are too expensive and take you to stores and such (which I assume pay them more money). All of my friends who have been touring in Beijing have agreed with me in not taking a tour from a tourism company there. You may even be able to get a free tour guide just by paying for their tickets into places and letting speak English with you. Chinese pay me to speak English. It's win, win!
