    Qinghai Lake is a saltwater lake, not freshwater. Developed cities won't have non-polluted fishing areas. The mere factor of their development is environmentally damaging. You'd need to head out to smaller areas. I've been to Tianzhu Tibetan region in Gansu province and it had a wonderfully clear river running through it. However, I don't know if there's any fish in the river. Tianzhu is about two hours northwest of Lanzhou. Heavenly Lake in Xinjiang (a drive from Urumqi) is a freshwater lake. There aren't many fish left in freshwater areas in China. Decades ago, when Mao took over, they were mostly wiped out by overfishing (people were starving!) or more recently by excessive pollution. About the only freshwater fishing available now occurs after midnight in a coy pond at a 5-star hotel in an over-populated east coast city.
