Is it safe to drink the water in Hong Kong?

What's the minimum time i should leave in between 2 connecting flights at Hong Kong airport ?

  • I am travelling from London to Hong Kong then from Hong Kong to Shanghai.I land in Hong Kong at 15.30.I want to get to Shanghai then A.S.A.P. What time allowance should i leave in between landing and departing ? - I don't want a mad rush but at the same time i don't want a mega wait.I want to be off, quick drink, board then off again.Help !!!

  • Answer:

It will all depend on whether you can use the same airline or a partner airline for both flights and whether you can check your bags through to Shanghai and receive your boarding passes for both flights in London. If you have to clear immigration and collect your bags and check-in again for your flight in Hong Kong for your flight to Shanghai, you should probably leave yourself at least two hours or so. If you are able to check your bags through and not have to check in again, 45 minutes or so should be fine, I've flown the same connecting flight through Hong Kong to the US with a 40 minute time difference between arrival and departure at least 40 times and have never missed the flight, but a little extra time won't hurt. The Hong Kong Airport is a one of the easiest airports in the world to connect through, two hours should leave you plenty of time without having to rush, but it can be done more quickly if you set things up properly. Good luck.

You should absolutly leave AT LEAST 2 hours. If your flight is delayed from London this can cause problems if you're flying on 2 seperate airlines. The one from HKG to PVG does not have to protect you on a new flight if you miss the first one. You will have to go through customs in HKG, which can cause additional delays. You might also have to travel to a different terminal. - Robin, STA Travel

There's actually several airlines you could use for your segment London-Hong Kong and Hong Kong-Shanghai. From experience, if you want a smooth connection and check-in all the way through Shanghai from London, you should use Cathay Pacific. They have several flights a day, every day, from London to HK and offer shorter connection time at the HK airport since you'll be flying with the same airline all the way through and their flights are coordinated for convenience and to save time. Your flight from HK to Shanghai would be on either Cathay or Dragonair (both OneWorld partner). It doesn't matter which one really as Dragonair is now actually owned by Cathay. Your bags will also be checked-in all the way through your final destination saving you time and effort, and if flying business or first class you'll have access to great lounges at the airports, two more reason to fly Cathay Pacific all the way through. Another advantage of flying the same carrier for both segments is that you will be protected out of HK on another flight if you are delayed out of London and miss your connection...less stress for your long journey. You can easily book your whole itinerary online on Cathay Pacific website: cathaypacific.com. Hope this helps.

If there is not a problem checking in for the connecting flight, like really long lines, you can do it in 1 hour, however, you should allow 2 hours to be safe.
