How much money should I bring to Hong Kong?

How much money should I expect to spend in Hong Kong per day? How much should I bring for 8 days?

  • My plane ticket is around 850, and I have a friend staying there for the semester, so my lodging is free. I really only have to worry about food, taxis, etc. With this in mind, how much should I plan on bringing for the whole trip? How much should I plan on spending per day? Thanks for the help

    Low ball is US$20 per day for survival, that is bus and MTR plus basic food. No taxi, no steak and lobster etc. and only trinkets for souvenirs. ( Not much for fun, huh ? ) But I always recommend around US$50 on average as you would want to have a better than average meal here and there, hit the bars for one night or two, visit some of the places where it costs admission and buy a few items that is not fake or knock off. ( I assume this is not just a business trip ! ) Just budget US$400 for spending and you should be in good shape. But it wouldn't hurt to have a credit card on stand by, just in case you have more fun than you expected.

It depends on what you want to do. If you take the bus or the MTR, you should get the octopus card. Also, the food is cheap if you eat at those little restaurents! The food is cheap. Also, don't go to nightclubs too much as those are more expensive.

If you are a traveler and want to eat a lot of good food, it will be enought to bring about $3,000 which is like 2,4000 yuan.

chewhwee is right, but if you plan to go out drinking take a lot more - pubs and clubs are expensive out there

It would be best if you have a credit card/ or at the least, a debit card. Try to learn how to take the mtr so you don't have to waste money taking taxis. As for food, I hope u r into chinese food and don't mind having a quick bite at a small eating place. say HK$300 a day, just in case (in fact, HK$200 is enough if you spend your money wisely)
