Why do people think all chinese eat dog and cat?

I'm a Chinese (Cantonese) Australian and I don't. I reckon it is SICK and it annoys the heck out of me that they are doing it back there. It destroys the belief that Asians are civilised and obedient. Well, it isn't the case anymore is it when they eat cats, dogs, monkey brains, babies etc... YUCK! No wonder my parents mention NOTHING of our roots from China and instead only talk about Vietnam, where they were born.

Yes. Many Chinese eat dogs. Those persons who don't have jobs in the large east coast cities designed to impress the world with China's overwhelming power are left in the countryside to fend for themselves. With little farmland available for other livestock, the rural Chinese continue to eat the stray dogs (as a source of protein) which are shipped out of the urban areas on trains in order to feed the masses. Although it's a sad thing to Westerners, it's really just a matter of survival, and the dogs are grateful to sacrifice themselves to the greater good of the Chinese. I've heard that the Pekingese dogs are especially tasty.

um.......chinese people ate dog( we did not eat cat) back in the oldern days. Not now. I should know. I am chinese. And i have NEVER eaten dog or cat. My parents only ate dog once when they were kids.

Some people in south China eat domestic animals. It's not common elsewhere in the country.

Well, definitely not all, per say. That's like saying all Americans eat beef, and they definitely don't. But it is more acceptable in China to eat dog, so some people definitely do. I'm pretty sure American Chinese people wouldn't, because the animal cruelty laws in America are probably against it.
